How Metabolic Efficiency Training Changed My Life

As an athlete and a Registered Dietitian,

I thought I had a pretty good grasp on optimal nutrition for performance. I competed in many triathlon and running races, long and short distance, following the general sports nutrition recommendations: high carbohydrates, moderate protein and lower fat. I was always about ten pounds overweight, bloated during training sessions, GI issues before, during and after race day, poor sustainable energy with reliance on high carb sources in attempts to improve energy levels, poor bowel regimen, but my performance was decent (age group triathlete) and my blood work looked stellar. I thought this was the normal lifestyle of an endurance athlete. Boy was I wrong!

That’s when I stumbled upon the concept of Metabolic Efficiency Training (MET). It immediately got my attention with the big factor being, No GI issues. I thought to myself, could this be true?! I purchased all of the MET books in attempts to learn as much as possible. I was completely sold on the concept. I knew that one day, I would have to become a Metabolic Efficiency Training Specialist (METS). Two years later I became a METS for Health and Medical Professionals. It has completely changed my life forever! This is what has changed for me:

-No midday energy slump, my energy is great and well sustained throughout the day

-No brain fog, I find I can focus longer

-Even with amazing energy, I am able to crash out and sleep very well, huge improvement on sleep

-All cravings went away

-I feel satiated, I was sick of chasing my hunger all day long

-It taught me to really be in tune with my hunger cues

-As a runner, crossfitter and triathlete, my ability to run/train longer and lift heavier greatly improved

-Less reliance on carbs during long training sessions, and less water needed to hydrate

-NO GI ISSUES!!! Yes! It’s true! I struggled with bloating and gut issues while training/competing.

-I lost body fat, the number on the scale did not change drastically, but I went down two sizes and I am much leaner

-I feel overall physically and mentally better balanced, more centered, more relaxed even

-In my private practice, my client base has grown dramatically in a very short time frame due to the METS certification

-Clients are saying things such as “Where have you been all my life?”, “I sleep so good now”, “I am able to run forever”, “I feel lighter”, “I am snacking less”, “I fit in suits that I haven’t been able to wear in 10 years”, “I get compliments on how good my skin looks”, “I feel stronger” ... I think you get the point.

-I created MET meal plans for a very successful 8-week JumpStart Program. Every client felt that the program did not end after 8 weeks.

A TRUE lifestyle change.

They felt the program was something that they could sustain as their new lifestyle.

-I’ve witnessed clients bodies changes; losing inches, weighing less, having to buy new clothes, gaining muscle. Leaning out is the main weight improvement I see with ME.

-Clients have had vast improvements in lipid profiles, blood sugars, HgbA1c’s, and hormone levels

-Clients either decreased or were completely taken off blood pressure and blood lipid medications

I’m sure you’re wondering how all of this can actually happen. It starts by eating a proportionate amount of protein, healthy fat and fiber at every meal and snack. The end goal of Metabolic Efficiency Training is to optimize and stabilize blood sugars. These three food components promote stabilization in blood sugars and limit the amount of insulin produced. This in turn creates improvements in body composition, energy levels, and hormone levels. It can improve sleep, mood, concentration, and biomarkers such as lipid profile, blood sugars and other metabolic markers. It can cause less GI issues while exercising, less dependence on high carb sources for fuel, less overall calories while training/competing and most importantly, an improvement in overall health and wellbeing due to decreasing overall risk of disease states.

Metabolic Efficiency Training

has proven its success in both my personal and professional life.

It will always be something that is a part of me and my family, as we have all adopted this amazing concept. Not to mention, I now hold a certification that gives my clients that extra edge to reach their optimal goal of health and performance.
